About The Role
The Plant Coordinator ensures the right plant and equipment are planned, mobilised, allocated, maintained, and safely operated to support the Enabling & Earthworks scope. The role optimises plant uptime and utilisation across bulk earthworks, haul road operations, materials handling, and logistics support, working closely with supervisors, subcontractors, and the logistics control room to protect the programme’s critical path.
Responsibilities- Maintain the rolling plant demand plan aligned to the construction schedule and short‑interval control (daily/weekly).
- Coordinate the mobilisation, allocation, and redeployment of plant (e.g., excavators, dozers, ADTs, graders, compactors, telehandlers, fuel bowsers, lighting towers).
- Balance owned vs. hired plant and track off‑hire windows to avoid unnecessary costs.
- Ensure operators have correct competencies/tickets and are assigned to plant and shifts.
- Coordinate with plant providers/workshops on preventive maintenance, inspections, LOLER/PUWER and repairs to minimise downtime.
- Maintain an accurate asset register, service history, and inspection records for audit readiness.
- Ensure pre‑use checks, defect logging and lock‑out/tag‑out processes are followed.
- Verify plant is fit‑for‑purpose for earthworks (e.g., GPS‑enabled machines, tyre selection, buckets/blades, vibration exposure controls).
- Align plant availability with haul route readiness, lay‑down capacity, and delivery sequencing.
- Support fuel management (consumption tracking, bowser routing, spill controls) and consumables (filters, teeth, blades).
- Coordinate movement of plant between workfaces, compounds, and rail/port transfer points, managing escorts and route clearances if required.
- Interface with Traffic, Materials, and Rail/Import teams to synchronise plant for unloading, stockpile management, and loading operations.
- Manage breakdown process, ensuring timely reporting and repairs to minimise downtime, and arrange alternative replacements where necessary.
- Compile site NRMM register and ensure compliance and up‑to‑date records are kept.
- Monitor plant register weekly/daily and work with supply chain to hire/off‑hire in a timely manner.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience coordinating plant/equipment on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects, preferably heavy earthworks.
- Strong understanding of plant capabilities, maintenance cycles, and safe operations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple suppliers, hire agreements, and competing site demands.
- Competent with Excel/Sheets and plant tracking tools; able to build clear dashboards.
- Excellent communication skills across supervisors, operators, and logistics teams.
- CSCS card (relevant level).
- Full UK driving licence.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience on nuclear, rail, highways, tunnelling or other regulated projects.
- Familiarity with telemetry/telematics (utilisation, fuel, idle time).
- Knowledge of LOLER/PUWER, lifting interfaces, and temporary works/ground conditions impacts.
- Exposure to control room operations and delivery management system.
- CPCS/NPORS knowledge for plant categories (coordinating, not necessarily operating).
- SSSTS/SMSTS (desirable based on scope).
- First Aid at Work (desirable).
- Shift, weekend, and out‑of‑hours support may be required to match programme and delivery windows.
- Role requires project‑specific induction, clearances, and training.
- Outdoor/site‑based presence is expected; PPE provided.
- Smart working, including staggered start and finish times, and up to 40% remote working where roles allow.
- 25 days paid annual leave (pro rata).
