As a Mechanical Estimator, you will prepare, review, and present discipline estimates for specific project proposal activities. In this role, you will provide estimating assistance and guidance to projects, develop conceptual estimates, and perform cost analysis. You will be responsible for assisting in the development of discipline estimates, developing, and updating historical databases, and assisting in the development of department procedures.
You will provide direction to others on estimating specific level tasks as required.
Ganotec is a full service, heavy industrial contractor serving the industrial sector across Canada. Ganotec typically self performs all major disciplines including civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical equipment installation, process piping and electrical/instrumentation and controls. We conduct our business through a variety of commercial contract styles including full turnkey, EPC, design build, T&M and conventional discipline packages. Ganotec continuously seeks growth opportunities while maintaining strong collaboration with owners, major equipment suppliers and engineers at the early stages of project development to enable a more cost‑effective execution strategy.
LocationThis position is based in our office in Oakville.
Responsibilities- Determine installation quantities based on drawings and specifications
- Prepare cost estimates for major projects locally and across Canada
- Develop comprehensive estimates for large and complex works
- Review the owner's plans and specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop a plan for actual construction as the basis for the estimate
- Review all tender and contract documents and advise from the home office legal department
- Coordinate with other disciplines such as planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposal team
- Prepare and present estimates to management and external clients
- Maintain a professional and trustworthy relationship with clients, professionals, subcontractors and suppliers
- Collaborate with the estimate team on continuous improvement initiatives
- Bachelor’s degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience in mechanical estimation with relevant industry experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical estimating for major projects
- Excellent knowledge of the Canadian construction market
- Excellent communication English skills;
French is preferred - Effective presentation and negotiation skills
- Advanced computer skills; knowledge of MS Office, Bluebeam software is an asset
- Experience in industrial, hydro, oil and gas, and mining environments is an asset
- Must be willing to travel to project sites or meet with clients for estimate‑specific needs
- Well organized, flexible, team‑player, detail oriented, and able to multitask
- Prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines while adapting to changing tasks and demands
- Work productively and meet deadlines in a timely manner
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
- Perform work safely and effectively; understand and follow oral and written instructions, warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines; work overtime and weekends as required
- May work at various locations with conditions that may vary

Base Compensation: $90,000 - $140,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
