About the Role
The Lower Thames Crossing is one of the UK’s biggest infrastructure projects. On the Roads North section, we’re delivering everything from micro‑tunnelling to major bridges and large‑scale road realignments – all of which depend on well‑planned, well‑managed temporary works. We are looking for a Temporary Works Manager who thinks in terms of structure, clarity and leadership to manage complex environments.
Responsibilities- Lead and support a team of Temporary Works Coordinators
- Ensure that temporary works procedures are clear, followed and effective on site
- Act as the go‑to technical adviser on temporary works
- Work closely with designers and delivery teams to ensure buildability
- Plan and track temporary works designs, briefs and approvals
- Review complex (Category
3) designs with confidence
Monitor performance, standards and identify improvement opportunities - Carry out audits and raise the bar across the project
- Support training, mentoring and competency development
Required:
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- 5–10 years’ experience in temporary works
- Experience in a senior or lead coordination role Strong understanding of BS 5975, CDM and industry best practice
- Confidence to challenge where needed and support with technical evidence
- SMSTS certification and a valid CSCS card
Preferred:
- CITB Temporary Works Coordinator qualification
- Experience on major infrastructure (highways, tunnelling, etc.)
- Experience with audits, assurance or competency management
- Smart working with flexibility, including up to 40% remote working where roles allow
- 25 days paid annual leave (pro‑rated)
