Summary:
Thales Canada seeks a Life Cycle and Materiel Manager – Naval Architecture Specialist to support non‑Combatant In‑Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy. The incumbent will provide engineering support and technical oversight of hull systems and fittings on AOPS and JSS class ships, ensuring configuration integrity and managing change across the entire life cycle.
- Perform life‑cycle and materiel management functions including equipment obsolescence, material compatibility, alternate part investigations, maintenance and disposal.
- Support design and configuration control activities, conduct functional and physical audits, and document deviations and waivers.
- Provide technical advice for correct operation and maintenance of auxiliary and mechanical equipment.
- Monitor system performance through reports such as Unsatisfactory Condition Reports, Pre‑Installation Failures, and Technical Investigations.
- Maintain appropriate spare parts levels and support the cataloguing process.
- Investigate problems, analyse failures, and recommend solutions.
- Develop and review technical documentation: equipment specifications, installation/maintenance instructions, test agendas, and engineering change documentation.
- Analyse requirements related to baseline configuration changes to ship, equipment, and software.
- Liaise with OEMs, service providers, and ship staff to resolve defects.
- Prepare documented work scopes for external quotations and manage work packages and cost estimates.
- Diploma: 3‑year technical program diploma (Technologist) or 2‑year diploma (Technician) in a marine technical field, orcertificate of technologist/technician from a recognized provincial, state, or federal licensing body, or Canadian Armed Forces trade certification (Marine Technician RQ‑PO1/PO2QL7 or Marine Engineer QL6A/B).
- Minimum 8 years of professional work experience in naval, marine, or offshore industry within the last 15 years.
- Extensive knowledge of hull systems and fittings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiar with safety standards.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Language:
English (essential).
- Strong experience in maintenance, operation, design, troubleshooting, and repair of hull and marine systems.
- Experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.
- Previous experience as a Life Cycle Materiel Manager for hull or other marine systems.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Familiarity with DND maintenance management system “DRMIS.”
- Experience delivering marine in‑service support of operational assets.
- Knowledge of certification requirements:
Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, DND regulations.
Primarily office work with occasional travel to dockyards and onboard ships. May involve bending, twisting, and working aloft.
Schedule/Travel40 hours per week; occasional domestic or international travel as required.
CompensationTotal Target Compensation (TTC) range: $95,000–$130,000 CAD (annual). The range depends on experience, skills, performance, and company salary budget.
