A Day in the Life As the Senior Product Safety Specialist, you provide expertise and knowledge for chemical control legislation in Europe. You assist with substance registrations, dossier maintenance, process management, and legislation interpretation to keep all LYB legal entities compliant. You are responsible for global chemical control evaluation and approval for all raw materials and finished goods, including SAP data requirements for compliance checks and volume tracking functionality.
You anticipate and interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommendations to business groups, sales, external customers, distributors, manufacturing facilities, and R&D/technical. You participate in external industry groups and trade associations on global chemical control issues and represent Lyondell Basell before regulatory agencies as appropriate.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Manage and resolve chemical control and substance volume requests for all materials globally.
Provide chemical control expertise to all business areas, manufacturing, and R&D. Communicate new regulatory developments to key internal stakeholders and identify impacts on LYB.
Assist with the registration process and data management systems for all legal entities, including completing steps, managing sample collection, initiating analytical testing, and reviewing results.
Maintain critical record‑keeping information to support chemical control processes, such as downstream uses, agreements for controlled conditions, representative agreements, dossier versioning, regulatory authority communications, IUCLID and other database management, and IT upgrades.
Participate in dossier management team meetings with toxicology, hazard communication, and regional chemical control staff.
Communicate with consortium, customer, and supplier end‑use compliance.
Prepare responses to ECHA and member state inquiries as required.
Lead the manufacturing focal point network meetings to update on regulatory changes, provide training, and address compliance questions.
Understand the budget process and registration fees for all substances.
You Bring This Value BSc/MSc technical degree in chemistry, engineering, or an Environmental Health and Safety discipline.
Minimum 5 years of specific functional experience in regulatory, manufacturing, EHS, or product R&D.
Experience participating in external industry groups or advocacy with regulatory agencies (e.g., Catalyst Europe, Cefic, REACH Centrum, LOA, ECHA, Member States) is a plus.
Knowledge of procurement, manufacturing, sales, supply chain, accounting, legal, and finance processes.
Strong working knowledge of IUCLID and REACH‑IT for European Chemical Agency registrations.
English proficiency required.
Successful candidates demonstrate a results‑driven mindset, strong analytical and database skills, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory systems such as IUCLID and SAP. They collaborate effectively, communicate clearly in all formats, and bring technical expertise, product understanding, and business acumen to both operational and strategic contributions.
