Job TitleMechanical & Piping Field Engineer (Night Shift) – Leroy, SK
Job DescriptionThe Mechanical & Piping Field Engineer (MFE) will perform field inspections and participate in construction walk‑downs to ensure construction meets mechanical design intent on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project. The role is a contract opportunity in a JV/IPT environment with a 14 day on/7 day off rotation.
Notes:
No relocation subsidy or living out allowance. This is a camp position.
- Address mechanical technical queries and non‑conformance reports related to the mechanical design.
- Perform field inspections and walk‑downs of mechanical construction work.
- Complete mandatory mechanical inspections, including lifting equipment.
- Review submittals related to mechanical plans, quality plans, ITPs, and inspection records.
- Issue quality incident reports and manage Technical Queries (TQs), Field Change Notices (FCNs), Field Change Reports (FCRs), and Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Communicate mechanical design changes with construction and engineering teams.
- Leverage ICC platforms and systems to submit queries, notices, and reports.
- Review installed quantities and turnover documentation.
- Participate in construction walk‑downs and verify closure of punch items.
- Attend weekly contractor quality meetings.
- Review material receiving reports and warehousing to assure correct delivery.
- Generate reports on mechanical engineering deliverables, execution, and turnover.
- Participate in all training required by BHP and in site risk and control ownership.
- May involve underground shaft mining work and preparation of field sketches for temporary facilities.
- Maintain organization, prioritization, and adherence to deadlines.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Recognized bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
- Professional Engineering license valid in Saskatchewan is an asset.
- 8 to 12 years of relevant experience in mining and/or mineral processing; underground mining experience is an asset.
- Strong understanding of quality management processes, ISO standards and auditing processes for major projects.
- Functional knowledge of industry‑leading functional standards and engineering management practices, including 3D data‑centric platforms.
- High attention to detail, motivation, and commitment to quality outcomes.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast‑paced, agile environment.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly grasp new concepts and technologies.
- Working knowledge of engineering, contracts & procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, health & safety, environment & community, and risk at large capital projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem‑solving skills, including root cause analysis training.
