Role Overview
As a senior engineer in rock mechanics, you’ll apply sound rock mechanic principles to surface mining, underground mining, and civil construction.
Type of position:
Regular
- Apply rock mechanics across a range of activities, including field mapping, geotechnical core logging, rock mass characterization, rock stability assessments, and reinforcement design.
- Coordinate and manage geotechnical site investigations, field activities, and laboratory material testing; prepare technical reports.
- Review and supervise civil and geotechnical construction activities.
- Perform terrain and slope hazard assessments, mapping and reporting.
- Carry out geotechnical engineering analyses, including slope stability, seepage, and deformation analysis.
- Work with multidisciplinary project teams and ensure the technical quality of deliverables.
- Mentor junior technical personnel.
- Travel to project sites within Canada and occasionally overseas.
- Degree in engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, mining engineering, or related field; postgraduate degree or relevant mine operations experience is an advantage.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
- Over 10 years of relevant professional geotechnical engineering experience.
- Strong academic background and solid understanding of rock mechanics.
- Advanced expertise in numerical modelling using software such as Rocscience suite, FLAC3D, and other geotechnical analysis tools.
- Robust written and verbal communication skills, technical writing experience, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites; valid driver’s licence required.
- Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English‑speaking Canadian provinces and internationally; you may need to use English occasionally or daily, depending on current projects.
- Advanced French skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in Québec.
- Asset: background in soil mechanics.
- Annual base salary from $100,000 to $160,000.
