For our client Sabic we are looking for a Maintenance Engineer | Technical Specification Specialist. The Maintenance Engineer | Technical Specification Specialist provides critical first‑line troubleshooting and drives the gatekeeping process for maintenance work orders. This role is responsible for delivering precise technical specifications for corrective maintenance to minimize plant downtime and optimize costs. Serving as the primary technical liaison, the position bridges day‑to‑day execution with long‑term strategy by continuously refining preventive maintenance plans.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Specification & Scope Definition
Develop high‑quality technical specifications (Technische Opdracht Stelling) for corrective maintenance to ensure "first‑time‑right" preparation by planners and seamless execution by technicians.
Oversee and ensure the quality and timely delivery of maintenance work specifications produced by senior technicians.
Optimize technical solutions to balance effective asset maintenance with minimal execution and preparation costs.
Act as the project lead for "in‑kind" asset replacements within the Management of Change (MOC) process.
Troubleshooting & Execution Support
Provide first‑line multidisciplinary troubleshooting, pulling in specialized technical experts when necessary.
Lead post‑execution evaluations of maintenance work to continuously improve team efficiency and effectiveness.
Complete pre‑start‑up safety checklists prior to handing assets back to operations.
Compliance, Safety, & Risk Management
Ensure strict compliance with all applicable engineering standards, corporate practices, and statutory regulations (safety, environment, and hygiene).
Active participation in hazard reviews (Safety Assessments, PHRs, JSAs, TRAs) and root‑cause failure analyses (RCA).
Process Gatekeeping & Continuous Improvement
Serve as a core member of the notification gatekeeping team, deciding if and how work orders are routed through the maintenance workflow.
Analyze completed maintenance data alongside Reliability Engineers and Technical Authorities to optimize preventive maintenance plans and reduce total cost of ownership.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s (HBO) or Master’s degree in Process Control, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
Deep professional knowledge of instrumentation and process control systems.
Strong quality awareness and a mindset geared toward continuous improvement.
Good command of the English and Dutch (both written and spoken).
Competencies
Strong decision‑making skills, particularly during the work‑order gatekeeping process.
High stress tolerance with the ability to maintain focus in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure plant environment.
Proven ability to build positive working relationships across multidisciplinary teams (planners, technicians, and engineers).
Clear communication skills paired with an uncompromising commitment to safety awareness.
