Overview

Grade C - £35,412 - £44,075. Working 36.5 hours per week.

Birmingham is in an unprecedented period of transformational change. As a consequence of the City’s economic growth, regeneration and transformation there has been a significant increase in street works activity on our highway network. It is anticipated that there will be further major utility works, new developments, and transportation projects over the coming years in order to accommodate future growth.

Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Network Management and Highway Approvals Team and will assist the Traffic Managers and Senior Traffic Managers in delivering a coordinated, planned and effective response to the Network Management Duty across the whole organisation as contained within the requirements of the Traffic Management Act 2004.
  • Lead role in ensuring that street works permits and Traffic Management Applications are assessed and actioned appropriately, in line with the relevant legislation (New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and The Highways Act 1980).
  • Assess applications, promote coordination through negotiation with external stakeholders, apply permit conditions to applications and ultimately approve or reject street works permits.
  • Work closely with Network Inspectors to ensure that Works Promoters adhere to permit conditions and ensure the effective operation of Birmingham’s Permit Scheme.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience with street works legislation and related acts referenced above.
  • Proof of Right to work in the UK will be required for all applicants in accordance with UK Home Office requirements, before any employment offer can be confirmed.
