Environmental Field Scientist - Environmental Technologist

Overview

AtkinsRéalis’s Minerals and Metals team is expanding its environmental fleet in Canada. This key position – Environmental Field Scientist / Environmental Technologist – will be based in Kitimat, BC, and will provide on‑ground environmental field expertise through a strong emphasis on fieldwork (>50%) for industrial clients across BC.

Kitimat, British Columbia – a Kitimat, BC-based role with frequent travel throughout northwestern BC.

• Conduct environmental field programs (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, waste & vapour sampling, compliance, stormwater, and leachate monitoring).
• Calibrate equipment; log and manage data in line with SOPs and QMS, including field notes and photo documentation.
• Support and oversee soil investigation and remediation programs, including in‑situ/ex‑situ testing, waste tracking, and contributing to reports.
• Coordinate field logistics (equipment, PPE, consumables, lab submissions); maintain field inventory and a home office setup.
• Manage field schedules, track time, maintain a company vehicle, and support project managers to deliver projects on time and on budget.
• Participate in project planning & execution (kickoff meetings, adapting to new challenges, contributing to regional growth).
• Ensure health & safety compliance by preparing & following safety plans, leading or attending daily safety meetings, and completing required documentation.

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, geology, soil science, environmental engineering, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in environmental site assessment and remediation, preferably with mining or metallurgical facilities.
• Eligibility for membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., EGBC, BC Institute of Agrologists, Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC).
• Ability to lift/carry field equipment up to 50 lbs and hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean record.
• Comfortable working independently in remote field settings, with frequent travel across northwestern BC, including occasional overnight stays.
• Experience in technical report writing – ability to draft high‑quality reports under guidance is an asset.
