Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor – Balfour Beatty (@one Alliance)
Location: Peterborough (Hybrid working available)
Balfour Beatty plays a key role as part of Anglian Water's one Alliance, a collaboration with eight industry‑leading partners, delivering around 40% of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.
During AMP8, we are delivering nature‑based and sustainable infrastructure, from wetlands to urban drainage schemes, setting new benchmarks for environmental performance.
What you'll be doingAs a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor, you will be at the forefront of ensuring our projects not only meet environmental legislation but exceed best practice.
Working closely with delivery teams, you’ll provide expert guidance, support on‑site, and play a key role in mentoring and developing Environment & Sustainability Advisors across the Alliance.
This is an opportunity to drive environmental performance, champion innovation, and influence how sustainability is embedded across major infrastructure projects.
- Lead and support construction projects on environmental and sustainability matters, producing site‑specific documentation and guidance
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and promote best practice across the one Alliance
- Undertake site environmental audits and support continuous improvement
- Carry out environmental inspections (CEIRs) based on project risk profiles
- Lead reporting of CAT2 and CAT3 incidents, support near‑miss reporting and assist with CAT1 investigations
- Review environmental documentation (e.g. PEMP) produced by Advisors
- Support the introduction of innovative and sustainable practices across the Alliance
- Degree in an environmental or related discipline
- Strong technical knowledge across areas such as contaminated land, waste management, ecology, soil testing and environmental incident investigation
- Membership (Practitioner or Full) of a relevant professional body
- Experience in audit, reporting and performance tracking
- Strong skills in data and document production (Excel, Word, GIS, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work collaboratively with site teams and influence environmental best practice
