TheOpportunity
McElhanney seeks an Intermediate or Senior Electrical Engineer for our growing Western Canada operations. The role involves a diverse portfolio of projects, including building services, roadway and site lighting, traffic signalization, controls, and site & land development, with opportunities to expand into new and emerging areas as interests and expertise evolve. Working closely with the established electrical team and other disciplines, you will contribute to meaningful projects shaping communities throughout British Columbia and beyond.

Our electrical team is diverse, ranging from former Red Seal electricians to internationally experienced professionals who have led large‑scale teams and complex projects. The team is geographically distributed across British Columbia and Alberta, enabling support for projects throughout Western Canada. Collaboration, knowledge sharing, and flexibility in project roles are emphasized, allowing individuals to grow skills while delivering high‑quality work.
This position reports to our Prince George, BC branch; the successful candidate may be located anywhere within British Columbia or Alberta, with flexibility to work fully remotely.
What You’ll Do- Lead electrical engineering design and provide technical oversight for a range of projects, primarily focused on building systems.
- Manage projects in collaboration with client teams, acting as both representative and key project contributor.
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior staff, including EITs and technologists.
- Oversee and coordinate the work of consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure project quality and delivery.
- 8‑15 years of experience in electrical engineering.
- Registered P.Eng in British Columbia or eligible via inter‑jurisdictional transfer.
- Broad project experience across commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial buildings.
- Proficient in power distribution, communications, lighting, life‑safety, access controls, and security systems.
- Proficient in utility coordination and building servicing.
- Strong coordination skills with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with drafting in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience in municipal infrastructure, Ministry of Transportation and Transit projects, street lighting, and traffic signals is an asset.
The salary range for this position is 105,000 $ – 130,000 $ per annum. Compensation is commensurate with education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The presented base salary range reflects the required qualifications and experience for the position.
