Systems Engineer
Job Purpose
Senior Interface Engineer – Accounts for overall Interface activities during the detail engineering phase at the home office, and executes Project Interface activities at the site, combining technical and coordination aspects. Acts as the principal point of contact, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure coordination among multiple parties and project packages during design and execution phases.
Key Accountabilities- External and Internal Interfaces
- Coordinate engineering and execution of assigned interface requirements with internal and external parties, stakeholders, end‑users, and EPC contractors.
- Facilitate regular interface meetings between the EPC contractor and company.
- Lead discussions and coordination with Operations, Material Handling, and Turnaround teams for interface execution.
- Provide regular updates and monthly/weekly reports on interface progress to the Process/Commissioning Manager.
- Participate in project‑related interface meetings, ensuring timely completion of battery limit tie‑ins and scope‑related tie‑ins.
- Technical Integration
- Identify, define, and execute technical/physical internal and external interfaces during the EPC phase, establishing interface point registers.
- Monitor and control IP databases, initiating and managing IP/IQ correspondence and agreements to align with the interdependency schedule.
- Review project scope, implementing strategies, execution plans, and construction strategies.
- Design Alignment
- Establish and deliver interface deliverables, including interconnections with existing facilities and participation in interface HAZOPs.
- Ensure the battery limit HAZOP is performed as required.
- Organize interface meetings to finalize the interface point register for multiple disciplines promptly.
- Site Coordination
- Collaborate closely with the EPC contractor interface team and other stakeholders.
- Follow up on required interface documentation, providing feedback to the Process/Commissioning Manager to avoid schedule delays.
- Identify key interfaces between the project and existing facilities during shutdown activities.
- Maintain the database and review pre‑commissioning and commissioning procedures for various systems.
- Performance
- Ensure pre‑commissioning and commissioning procedures are prepared and reviewed on time.
- Maintain interface engineering document review plans and performance assessments.
- Assess KPIs, provide feedback, and identify improvement areas.
- Review and validate interface discipline concession requests, ensuring technical integrity before endorsement.
- Monitor and ensure interface discipline design change management and appropriate multidisciplinary impact assessment.
- General
- Hold regular meetings with interface discipline counterparts for coordination and problem resolution.
- Communicate updates and concerns to the Process/Commissioning Manager.
- Address technical conflicts and disputes with contractors professionally.
- Operational Plans
- Lead interface execution to achieve desired outcomes.
- Monitor pre‑commissioning/commissioning schedules and review procedures timely.
- Ensure proper cascade of schedule status to avoid slippage.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree (Mechanical, Chemical, or equivalent).
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Proven experience in brown‑field and green‑field projects.
- Minimum 15+ years of professional experience in oil, gas, or petrochemical industry.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with 5+ years in interface management.
- Experience with multiple FEED and EPC packages.
- Prior experience in GCC/ADNOC is preferred.
- Project execution knowledge and familiarity with engineering standards.
- Ability to promote team working and maintain a multicultural workforce.
- Strong time management, analytical, problem‑solving, and prioritisation skills.
- Knowledge of PFD/PP&, HAZOP reviews, and 3D model reviews.
- Expertise in technical report writing and formal technical correspondence.
- Capability to interpret engineering drawings and develop interface point design parameters.
- Proficiency with relevant engineering software and computer use.
