Sr Stress Mechanical Engineer – Honeywell Aerospace, Yeovil, UK

Hybrid role: 3 days at the office + 2 days work from home.

The Turbo machinery and Heat Exchanger Analysis and Design group within the Mechanical Systems and Components (MS&C) directorate is responsible for the design, development and analysis of Environmental Control System (ECS) turbo machinery and heat exchangers, as well as LSS and Oxygen backup systems. The successful applicant will be responsible for stress, vibration, and heat transfer analyses, providing technical expertise on a variety of projects and programs.

The role requires expert knowledge of engineering discipline and standards, processes and tools to ensure compliance with customer and program requirements, along with communication with project engineering teams, conducting design reviews, presenting to internal and external customers and contributing to department process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform stress analysis using complex finite element and classical hand calculation methods, and support testing.
  • Perform heat transfer analysis employing analytical correlations and complex finite element methods, covering thermodynamics, single and multi‑phase flows, and energy systems.
  • Provide technical oversight to global engineering teams across time zones.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Validate requirements, ensure project and product compliance, and manage risk.
  • Drive process development and address root cause and corrective action.
Key

Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or closely related field with emphasis in heat transfer or thermal sciences & stress analysis.
  • Proficiency in linear static, nonlinear/elasto‑plastic, fatigue (HCF & LCF), modal, shock, harmonic, random vibration, and crack growth analyses.
  • Strong working knowledge of ANSYS finite element software and classical hand calculation methods.
