Lead Civil Projects Engineer
Our client, one of the world's largest gold producers, is seeking an experienced Lead Civil Projects Engineer to join a major capital projects team supporting one of Canada's largest and longest-life gold mining operations.
Responsibilities- Lead civil engineering capital projects through all project phases including feasibility, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Support the Capital Projects Manager with the successful execution of a diverse portfolio of civil infrastructure projects.
- Manage external engineering consultants to deliver detailed engineering packages and technical documentation.
- Review and approve civil engineering designs, drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical deliverables.
- Provide technical leadership and civil engineering expertise across multiple concurrent capital projects.
- Develop project scopes, work breakdown structures (WBS), execution plans, and high-level project schedules.
- Coordinate interfaces between civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and environmental disciplines.
- Identify project risks, technical challenges, and opportunities while developing mitigation and recovery strategies.
- Support project estimating, budgeting, Applications for Expenditure (AFEs), forecasting, and cost control activities.
- Collaborate with procurement teams on tender packages, contractor selection, technical evaluations, and contract administration.
- Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and field execution while resolving technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, Ontario Building Code, mining regulations, and health & safety requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, value engineering opportunities, and engineering best practices across the project portfolio.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
- 10+ years of experience delivering civil infrastructure projects within mining, heavy industrial, or major capital project environments.
- Strong experience managing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) project execution.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks, and other civil engineering design software.
- Strong understanding of civil earthworks, mine infrastructure, concrete, structural works, roads, drainage, and site development.
- Experience developing project schedules, project execution plans, and engineering work packages.
- Knowledge of project estimating, forecasting, budgeting, and cost management principles.
- Strong understanding of Ontario Building Code, mining legislation, and applicable engineering standards.
- Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health & Safety legislation and construction regulations.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience working at remote mining operations is considered a strong asset.
