Design Manager – PBT (Nutrient Removal & Growth)

We ask candidates within the Anglian Water region to be in the office 3 days per week. If you are based outside the region, we’re happy to discuss a suitable hybrid arrangement.
As part of Anglian Water’s @one Alliance, you will lead a multi‑disciplinary engineering team of 15–20 people delivering a £110m portfolio of wastewater treatment projects. Working across multiple catchments, you will drive innovative solutions focused on phosphorus removal, storm overflow reduction and enabling sustainable growth, helping to shape resilient water infrastructure.
What You’ll Be Doing- Lead the design delivery of a complex portfolio of wastewater treatment projects across multiple catchments.
- Manage engineering plans covering scope, programme, cost, risk, resources and quality.
- Collaborate with internal teams, supply chain partners and key stakeholders to deliver project outcomes.
- Drive affordable, sustainable and low‑carbon design solutions that support environmental and operational objectives.
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and champion a strong health, safety and wellbeing culture.
- Lead, mentor and develop a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary engineering team.
- Promote innovation, standardisation and digital engineering practices, including 3D modelling and modern design tools.
- Degree qualified in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional chartership.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing design delivery on capital infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of CDM regulations and the responsibilities of the design function.
- Experience with in the water, wastewater, utilities or wider infrastructure sector would be advantageous.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and collaborative working skills.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities with a focus on delivering practical, value‑driven solutions.
- A passion for sustainability, innovation and continuous improvement.
