Building Services Engineer
Company Description CFE Installations Limited is a family-owned business based in Alvechurch.
Established in 1991 as a specialist air conditioning provider serving end-users, construction, interior, and M&E companies.
Over the past five years, the company has naturally evolved to deliver air conditioning, ventilation, and HVAC services across the country.
CFE employs fully trained and certified engineers who follow strict health and safety practices and receive regular training.
The company operates in-house computer-aided design, IVES loading calculations, and continued CPD from design through to installation, ongoing service, and maintenance support.
CFE holds multiple industry accreditations, including Daikin D1 Partner, Mitsubishi BSP, Safe Contractor Gold, Refcom Elite, and CHAS.
Role Description This is a full-time Sales/Design/Estimator role based in Alvechurch, with a mix of office work, site visits, and some work-from-home flexibility.
The role involves responding to enquiries, meeting prospective and existing clients, assessing project requirements, and preparing detailed quotations and proposals for HVAC and mechanical packages.
Your day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing drawings and specifications, producing designs using our in-house design and drafting software (training offered), selecting equipment, preparing cost estimates, creating detailed yet streamlined proposals, and liaising with our trusted suppliers to obtain competitive pricing.
The role requires close coordination with directly employed engineers, project managers, and the operations team to ensure accurate designs, compliant installations, and smooth project delivery.
The successful candidate will also maintain client relationships, attend site surveys, support tender submissions, and contribute to ongoing improvement of sales and estimating processes.
Qualifications
- BTEC NC/HNC preferred but not always essential.
- Working with and alongside a fantastic team of office and site-based staff/engineers.
- Strong sales and customer relationship skills, including experience conducting site surveys, presenting proposals, and managing client expectations.
- Design and technical skills related to HVAC/VRF/VRV and mechanical services, such as interpreting drawings, producing layouts, and using CAD or similar design software.
- Estimating and commercial skills, including preparing detailed quotations, performing cost and margin analysis, and working with suppliers on pricing.
- Solid understanding of building services, health and safety standards, and relevant industry regulations and best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documents and proposals.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, capable of handling multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., MS Office) and comfort working with digital tools and CRM systems.
- Previous experience in HVAC, mechanical building services, or a closely related field in a sales, design, or estimating capacity.
