About the Buildings UnitThe Buildings Unit (BLD) spans regional offices across the UK and mainland Europe, providing cross‑sector skills across Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water sectors.
Role OverviewInformation Communication Technology (ICT) Principal Engineer to design Security Systems and ICT Infrastructure as part of the Digital Infrastructure team, working with multidisciplinary Building Services Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) team.
Based primarily in Southern UK offices but with opportunities on national and international projects.

- Deliver Security Systems and ICT infrastructure design from concept through to detailed design.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, architects and civil engineers.
- Engage with clients to understand requirements, develop solutions and document specifications.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring high‑quality service delivery.
- Support senior managers with commercial and contractual aspects of projects.
- Work autonomously within a team on building services projects.
- Prepare design documents: sketches, drawings, reports, schedules and specifications.
- Participate in all project phases: feasibility, concept, detail design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, hand‑over and in‑use.
- Review and coordinate designs with internal and external disciplines.
- Comment on third‑party designs and check against briefs and standards.
- Inspect and witness testing of systems under construction or as‑built and report findings.
- Keep updated on technical standards, product developments and identify training opportunities.
- Support learning and development of early‑career professionals.
- Proven experience delivering projects in the built environment.
- Extensive design experience for Security Systems and ICT infrastructure at all stages.
- Capability to lead design and specification of CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Detection, Integrated Security Management Systems.
- Experience securing Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) or similar high‑security sites.
- Experience leading structured design processes such as Home Office Operational Requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and coordinate with other disciplines.
- Delivery of coordinated 3D design models.
- Leadership of security & ICT elements of one large project or a portfolio of smaller projects.
- Track record in building services Security Systems & ICT engineering design using industry software (e.g., NBS Create, Revit).
- Excellent communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
- Experience in MoD/defence, healthcare, aviation, rail, residential, or data centre sectors.
- Experience designing and specifying physical security measures.
- Degree‑qualified Engineer with a background in Electrical & ICT Building Services.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IET, CIBSE or equivalent professional body.
- Awareness of Cyber Security design principles.
- Experience designing passive and active ICT networks, Audio-Visual systems, Fire detection, PA/voice alarm and EVC systems.
- Experience in work‑winning and bid support.
- Familiarity with digital engineering tools and emerging technologies.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of building regulations, legislation and standards.
- Experience training graduates/early career professionals.
- Capability to drive profitability, monitor against budget, anticipate problems and communicate with clients.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally internationally.
- Commitment to high standards of corporate governance and project delivery.
