Role
The Automation and SCADA Engineering / Technologist will be experienced with both factory and process automation systems as well as safety systems including design, testing, trouble-shooting, and support efforts within the Oil and Gas industry. This position will have overall responsibility for the delivery of the automation scope associated with related project efforts within our Instrumentation and Controls Team in order to meet the expectations of the project, schedule and customer.
The Automation Engineering / Technologist will function both independently engaging on various controls related design and support efforts as well as working as part of a comprehensive team working with other technical staff, Project Managers and customers. This role will require a strong understanding of and experience in design, configuration and troubleshooting of various PLC / HMI, DCS and SCADA platforms.
The individual within this role will be able to adapt to various situations quickly while maintaining the highest level of professionalism. The individual will possess strong trouble shooting abilities and be able to formulate comprehensive strategies for resolving design challenges presented.
Areas of Accountability
The Automation Engineering / Technologist will be responsible for:
Management of project scope, schedule and project budget on various engagement efforts.Prepare Functional Design Requirements, Detailed Design Specifications, Control Narratives and Software Test Plans.Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications, and meet good engineering practice with excellent constructability.Participate in P&, HAZOP and other design reviews and studies.Configuration and programming of PLC, HMI/SCADA equipment including Allen-Bradley (Control Logix, Compact Logix, legacy PLC’s), SCADAPAK, Cygnet, GE, etc.Development of control strategies and shutdown keysAssist in Alarm Management and Rationalization reviewsDevelop and maintain databases for control, measurement and historical processesEngage in site troubleshooting activities, testing (FAT, SAT) and commissioning as well as attend site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of a project.Maintaining effective working relationships with internal teams, customers and support organizations.Establish best practices and approach to project challenges within the Automation Team.Qualification Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess:
Bachelors in Engineering or a Diploma in Technology in a related field.7 – 10+ years of experience in real-time control systems programmingDesign and programming experience with various industry PLC platforms including Allen-Bradley Control Logix, Guard Logix or Compact Logix PLCs or Modicon ProWORX NxT as well as SCADA platforms such as Cygnet or OASYS.Technical experience in the design, configuration and installation of DCS platforms including Emerson Delta V, Honeywell Expereion, ABB 800xA, Yokogawa DCS.HMI Development experience in one or more of the following applications:
Wonderware;
Factory Talk View SE;
Citect SCADA;
CygnetWorking knowledge of communication protocols and networking applications such as Control Net, Ethernet IP, Modbus RTU / TCP.Knowledge of SCADA systems and interfacing.Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft office packages. Preference for knowledge in Microsoft Access, VBScript and SQL Server packages.Strong command of the English language (both written and verbal)Ability to develop and maintain strong personal relationshipsWorking knowledge of the Oil & Gas and Electrical Utility marketplaceEffective organization and team coordination skillsAble to travel throughout Western Canada (Travel requirement of 10 – 20% yearly)What Catch Offers
