About The Opportunity
Match Box Consulting Group is partnering with our client, a well-established employee-owned environmental and hydrogeological consulting firm, to recruit an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to join their growing Mining Services team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior technical professional who enjoys solving complex hydrogeological challenges while leading multidisciplinary mining projects across Canada and internationally. You'll work alongside a highly respected team of hydro geologists, engineers, and geoscientists, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior professionals, and helping expand a growing mining practice.
This position offers flexibility to work from Nanaimo, Calgary, Edmonton, or remotely within British Columbia or Alberta
, with occasional travel to client sites throughout North and South America.
Candidate must currently reside in Canada.
As the Senior Hydrogeologist, you will provide technical leadership and project management across all phases of the mining lifecycle, including feasibility studies, operations support, environmental assessments, closure planning, and independent reviews.
Key Responsibilities Include- Lead hydrogeology components of multidisciplinary mining projects from planning through delivery.
- Develop conceptual hydrogeological models and provide technical recommendations to support mine planning and water management decisions.
- Oversee hydrogeological investigations, groundwater characterization, drilling programs, well installations, seepage assessments, and dewatering studies.
- Provide technical oversight for groundwater flow, geological, water balance, and water quality modelling projects.
- Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, work plans, and client deliverables.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, client expectations, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Mentor and develop junior and intermediate hydro geologists and engineers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with mining clients while supporting business development initiatives.
- Collaborate with specialists in geotechnical engineering, hydrology, geochemistry, and environmental sciences to deliver integrated water management solutions.
- Support strategic growth initiatives within the mining services practice.
The ideal candidate brings a combination of strong technical expertise, consulting experience, project leadership, and client development skills.
Qualifications Include- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of consulting and/or industry experience in physical hydrogeology.
- Professional registration (P.Geo. or P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligibility for registration.
- Demonstrated experience supporting mining projects throughout the project lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of BC environmental and mining legislation, including the Mines Act, Environmental Management Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Water Sustainability Act, and related regulations.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- Geological modelling (Leapfrog)
- Groundwater flow modelling (MODFLOW, FEFLOW)
- Water balance or water quality modelling (Gold Sim)
- Proven project management experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Strong client relationship management and business development capabilities.
- Established network within the mining industry is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Spanish language skills are considered an asset.
- Willingness to travel to remote project sites, including occasional international travel.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
