This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on critical projects supporting MOD operations, with the scope to influence safety assurance across high-profile ATM systems.
About the Role As a key player in the Marshall Programme, you will help ensure the safe operation of ATM equipment and services at UK Ministry of Defence sites. Your expertise will underpin the delivery of a robust Safety Management System (SMS) while collaborating across various teams to assess, review, and authorise safety artefacts. Your insights will directly support safety case development, hazard management, and regulatory compliance for ATM equipment, contributing to national security and operational efficiency.
What Youll Be Doing Assure safety assessments for changes to ATM equipment, chair and facilitate Equipment Safety Panel (ESP) considerations, and support project safety committees in decision-making.
Prepare and review safety artefacts in line with MOD and MAA regulations, including safety cases, hazard logs, and safety assessment reports.
Develop and secure approval for Release into Service strategies, ensuring compliance with safety legislation during equipment upgrades or modifications.
Support continuous improvement of the Safety Management System and Safety Assurance processes within the programme.
Collaborate with stakeholders and provide expert guidance on safety assurance activities aligned with Defence policies and standards.
What Were Looking For You will bring a strong background in system safety management, with proven experience in developing, maintaining, and assuring Safety Management Systems within complex technical environments. Ideally, you will have knowledge of Air Traffic Management systems, technical capabilities, and relevant MOD and MAA regulatory frameworks.
Key requirements include:
Chartered or equivalent engineering qualification (Level 4 NQF or higher).
Experience of safety assessment and assurance of system changes, preferably in ATM environments.
Extensive use of ASEMS and safety management tools.
Proficiency in electrical/electronic engineering disciplines.
Demonstrable experience of working with safety legislation, standards, and military safety policies.
SC clearance is essential.
Desirable skills include knowledge of Air Traffic Management equipment, MOD safety policies, and familiarity with Defence Standards and standards such as JSP 815, JSP 375, and associated Regulatory Articles.
Details & Benefits
Location:
Bristol Full remote working available, with occasional visits to Abbey Wood and Southampton.
Contract duration:
Until September 2026, with scope for extension.
Day rate: £420 £570 (Inside IR35).
Security clearance:
Minimum SC required.
Standard working hours: 7.5 per day.
