Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you passionate about designing advanced digital hardware for next-generation maritime technology?

We're seeking an experienced FPGA Engineer to join a growing engineering team developing cutting-edge digital hardware platforms for sophisticated marine systems. Working on a range of high-performance embedded technologies, you'll help deliver innovative FPGA and System-on-Chip solutions that support complex sensing, navigation and mission-critical processing capabilities in demanding maritime environments. The client are fine with majority remote working with monthly onsite visits, (one week per month for example).

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of state-of-the-art digital hardware, working alongside specialists across electronics, embedded software and systems engineering. The position offers a flexible hybrid arrangement, with predominantly remote working and occasional collaboration at our Hampshire engineering facility.

The Opportunity

As part of the digital hardware team, you'll be responsible for designing and implementing FPGA-based architectures from concept through to integration and verification. You'll work on both new product development and the evolution of existing marine platforms, helping introduce new technologies into future generations of equipment.

You'll have the freedom to influence technical decisions while working on challenging engineering projects where performance, reliability and innovation are key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement FPGA and SoC solutions for advanced marine electronics.
  • Develop robust VHDL and/or Verilog code for complex digital hardware applications.
  • Create reusable IP blocks and integrate high-speed digital interfaces.
  • Support embedded processing, sensor integration and real-time data handling.
  • Perform simulation, functional verification and hardware validation.
  • Participate in system integration, laboratory testing and debugging activities.
  • Produce clear technical documentation including design specifications and verification reports.
  • Contribute to FPGA architecture, timing optimisation and resource utilisation.

Skills & Experience

We're interested in engineers who have experience designing sophisticated FPGA-based systems and enjoy solving technically demanding challenges.

You'll ideally have:

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Commercial experience developing FPGA-based digital hardware.
  • Proven experience across the full FPGA design lifecycle.
  • Experience with industry-standard development environments including Vivado, Quartus and Model Sim or Questa Sim.

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:

  • MATLAB or digital signal modelling tools.
  • Understanding of timing closure, high-speed digital design and FPGA optimisation.
  • Experience working with embedded SoC devices such as Xilinx Zynq or similar platforms.
  • Good knowledge of structured engineering documentation and design methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Tcl scripting or automation tools.
  • Python or other scripting languages.
  • High-Level Synthesis (HLS).
  • High-speed communication interfaces.
  • Sensor processing or real-time data acquisition.
  • PCB design or schematic review.
  • AI acceleration or GPU-based processing.
  • Marine, naval, defence or other high-reliability engineering sectors.
  • Functional Safety or safety-critical development standards.
  • Current UK Security Clearance (SC or DV).

About You

You'll be a motivated engineer who enjoys tackling complex technical problems and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. You take pride in producing high-quality engineering solutions and are comfortable taking ownership of your work from concept through to delivery.

You'll bring:

  • A passion for digital hardware and FPGA technology.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • A methodical approach with attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively in a largely remote environment.

What's on Offer

  • Flexible hybrid working with most time spent working remotely.
  • Approximately one week each month onsite in Hampshire.
  • Salary up to £80,000 depending on experience.
  • Excellent benefits package.
