Join us in building the next generation of solid-state batteries.
As a fast-growing deep-tech spin-off from TU Delft we are developing high-performance, moisture-stable sulfide solid-state electrolytes that will enable safer, lower-cost, and higher-energy-density batteries for electric vehicles, aviation, drones, and humanoid robots.
Our mission is to support the energy transition by removing one of the biggest manufacturing barriers in the production of solid-state batteries. This will facilitate a faster commercialization of these batteries by using our innovative and easy-to-produce solid-state electrolyte. To help us achieve our mission, we are looking for an exceptional Senior Battery Materials Scientist to help transform our breakthrough materials into scalable products.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of materials science, electrochemistry, and manufacturing, and at the same time helping to build and shape Thionics.
What you'll do
As a Senior Battery Materials Scientist, you will play a leading role in developing next-generation solid-state battery materials and supporting their scale-up from laboratory to pilot production.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading the research and development of solid-state electrolyte materials.
Designing, synthesizing, and optimizing novel electrolyte compositions with high ionic conductivity and improved air/moisture stability.
Develop scalable synthesis routes and powder processing methods.
Design and execute electrochemical experiments to evaluate material performance.
Fabricate and evaluate solid-state battery cells.
Investigate and improve interfaces between electrolyte, cathode, lithium metal, and silicon anodes.
Use advanced characterization techniques to understand degradation mechanisms and failure modes.
Collaborate with process engineers from our team and at the University to transfer laboratory innovations toward pilot-scale manufacturing.
Analyze experimental data and establish structure–property relationships.
Contribute to patents, customer projects, and grant proposals.
Most importantly, enjoy what you do!
We are looking for:
A PhD in electrochemistry/materials science/ chemistry with specialization in solid-state batteries.
A minimum of 3 years of industrial and/or research experience in battery materials.
Demonstrated experience in developing solid-state battery materials.
Experience working on solid-state electrolytes is a big plus.
Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery chemistry and electrochemistry.
Hands-on experience synthesizing inorganic battery materials.
Experience with battery cell fabrication and electrochemical testing.
Experience analyzing electrochemical data including EIS, galvanostatic cycling, cyclic voltammetry, and rate capability.
Experience in physical analysis using XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy.
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
The willingness to work and contribute to an enthusiastic and fast-growing team.
You’ll thrive here if you
Enjoy solving difficult scientific problems.
Are excited about building technology from the ground up.
Take ownership of projects.
Love working with an international team.
Can translate scientific discoveries into commercial products.
Are curious, hands-on, and entrepreneurial.
What we offer
Opportunity to shape a breakthrough battery technology and make a long-lasting impact on the (European) battery ecosystem.
Work alongside the founders of the company.
A competitive salary and attractive ESOP arrangement.
Holiday allowance (8% of gross annual salary)
A pension arrangement.
25 days paid holidays on a yearly full-time basis.
Travel allowance to& from home-office at 0,25 ct/km (capped Km)
Personal training opportunities.
A collaborative and mission-driven work environment.
