Due to continued growth, Black & Veatch are looking to add an Engineering Manager with an electrical background, design and engineering experience to our EMEA team. The role will primarily involve coordinating and managing engineering related to Grid, Substation, and the Balance of Plant for BESS projects, across Medium and High Voltage projects.
The OpportunityAs the Senior Project Engineering Manager you’ll manage execution of the engineering components of multiple projects in the U.K., focused on Grid, Substation and BESS projects of varying size and complexity.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Lead a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians on projects.
- Supervise and mentor engineering staff, identifying developmental growth opportunities.
- Manage budgets, scheduling, and support correspondence with clients and project management in support of proposals and projects.
This role is office based with some travel to project sites, client or other B&V offices. We work a hybrid schedule with 2 days remote working from home per week.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for the supervision of project budget, schedule, technical output and performance of the engineering staff on projects of medium to high complexity
- In support of from a Project Manager, interfaces directly with the Client on all technical aspects of the project, project scoping, change management and other commercial aspects of the projects.
- Supporting business development of proposals, identifying client drivers.
- Provide technical guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and BV policies. Assists in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standards.
- Coordinate with all other internal/external team members on complex projects. Defining project schedules. Actively manage project changes directly with the Client with supervision from the Project Manager.
- Typically oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development, and corrective actions.
Acts as an engineering manager with responsibilities of managing engineer activities of projects. Support a Project Manager in client relations, commercial and project-performance-related metrics.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering strongly preferred
- Substantial relevant work experience – typically suited to professionals bringing 8+ years of experience
- Significant experience of detailed design in electrical engineering projects, particularly substation design
- Deep understanding UK Grid Code and UK TSO/DNO regulatory and compliance requirements compliance, and the UK power utilities landscape more broadly
- Proven project execution experience with ownership of engineering deliverables
- Full professional proficiency in written and spoken English
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if hired)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to electrical engineering and High Voltage networks
- Intermediate knowledge of other engineering disciplines (site-civil, structural, etc)
- Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content
- Knowledge of: construction & constructability practices & principles; procurement & contract administration; technical aspects of the proposal process; industry knowledge and technology trends
- Working knowledge of process, procedures for project controls and estimating
