Role Overview :

A leading rail and civil engineering contractor are looking to appoint an experienced CRE C or Senior Engineer to support a strong and confirmed programme of rail infrastructure work across Kent and Sussex.

The successful candidate will primarily work across projects on the Kent and Sussex rail routes and will be expected to regularly visit live project sites. The main technical focus of the position is earthworks, although candidates with broader civil engineering experience, including structures, will also be considered.

The ideal candidate will already be operating as a CRE (Construction), preferably with experience delivering earthworks within the rail environment. The business is also prepared to consider experienced engineers who are not currently CRE-C signed off but have the technical background and capability to be mentored into the designation. This could include candidates with strong rail engineering experience who are ready to progress into a CRE role, as well as experienced earthworks engineers from other civil engineering sectors who can demonstrate the appropriate technical capability.

This is fundamentally an engineering and assurance position rather than a project management role. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring works are technically compliant, appropriately assured and delivered in accordance with the relevant engineering standards, specifications and approved design.

The role will form part of a lean delivery team typically including a Section Engineer, Site Engineer, site management and subcontractors.

Projects are generally valued between approximately £2 million and £10 million, with the team typically delivering around three to four schemes each year.

Key Responsibilities:

· Act as CRE (Construction) where appropriately competent, appointed and signed off.

· Take technical responsibility for construction engineering activities within the appointed discipline.

· Provide engineering assurance and quality control for works undertaken on site and by subcontractors.

· Ensure works are constructed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, engineering standards and accepted methodologies.

· Review and support the preparation of Work Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, risk assessments and associated engineering documentation.

· Ensure suitable Inspection and Test Plans are produced, implemented and appropriately recorded.

· Coordinate and oversee inspections, testing and engineering checks throughout the construction process.

· Review engineering documentation and ensure appropriate records are maintained for project assurance and handback.

· Identify technical non-conformances and work with the wider project team to agree and implement corrective actions.

· Provide engineering judgement on buildability, construction methodology and technical risks.

· Support the management of temporary works requirements and liaise with the Temporary Works Coordinator where required.

· Undertake or oversee engineering inspections relating to earthworks, drainage, concrete, granular materials, surfacing, reinforcement and other civil engineering works as appropriate.

· Oversee earthworks testing, sampling,…
