Company and Role of Mechanical Design Engineer

Vickerstock are working with an established engineering and manufacturing business in the recruitment of a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Omagh site.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer in the earlier stages of their career who wants to develop their design experience within a supportive engineering team, with genuine opportunities to learn, develop and progress. The vacancy itself has arisen through an internal promotion.

We are particularly interested in speaking with Design Engineers with 1+ years' industry experience who enjoy practical engineering and want to work closely with the manufacturing floor rather than being completely removed from where the product is actually built.

The role is focused around the continued development and improvement of existing machinery, giving you exposure to product improvements, engineering changes, design modifications, cost reduction and practical manufacturing problem solving.

This isn't a role where you'll be sitting behind a CAD screen all week. You will have regular interaction with the manufacturing floor, allowing you to see first-hand how designs perform in production, understand practical manufacturing challenges and develop engineering solutions to improve the product.

Key Responsibilities for this Mechanical Design Engineer position

Develop and improve mechanical designs for heavy machinery and associated components
Produce and modify 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation
Support product improvement and Continuous Improvement projects
Work closely with the manufacturing floor to resolve practical design and production issues
Complete engineering design changes and product modifications
Identify opportunities to improve product design, manufacturability and cost
Support technical problem solving across Engineering and Manufacturing
Work with Engineering, Production and Supply Chain personnel to implement design improvements

Essential Criteria for this Mechanical Design Engineer position

Ideally 1+ years' experience within Mechanical Design Engineering or a similar engineering design position
A third level qualification within a relatable Engineering discipline
Experience using 3D CAD design software - ideally Solid Works, although experience with Creo, Solid Edge or similar will also be considered

Experience with in machinery, heavy engineering, fabrication, agricultural equipment, mobile equipment or another manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant but is not essential.
