As a Bridge Engineer in our Bridges and Civils team within the Transportation business, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transport. We work on a diverse range of significant and challenging projects across the UK and Ireland, including Lower Thames Crossing, highways work for Sizewell C and Heathrow, and key schemes across the M25 for Connect Plus Services.

The team also supports non‑transportation civil engineering and structural projects throughout the UK and internationally, such as Hinkley Point C, Transporter Bridge, and Moonshot. We also deliver a wide range of local authority projects for councils across the South, including Buckinghamshire Council, Surrey County Council and Cambridgeshire County Council.

You'll take pride in producing high‑quality civil and structural designs for new builds, renewals, maintenance and assessments. You'll experience real satisfaction in helping to shape robust, high‑quality infrastructure across all stages of design and delivery.

Your role
  • Take pride in developing high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance, and assessments.

  • Collaborate with both national and international design teams, using your expertise and leadership to create positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment.

  • Manage the production of, and review, high-quality design documentation including sketches, drawings, 3D BIM deliverables, analysis models, calculations, reports and specifications.

  • Able to understand a client's problem and bring the different capabilities of AtkinsRéalis together to develop a solution.

  • Independently carry out technical work and provide guidance to junior staff members.

  • Develop capability within the team and wider business.

  • Lead teams in the design, assessment, and maintenance of structural projects, and providing structures related input on multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option.

  • Engage with and manage internal and external stakeholders.

  • Identify new opportunities and growth propositions and bring value into the business by seeing these through to new work for themselves and others.

  • Lead bids and tenders, winning work and developing Client relationships.

  • Keep abreast of state-of-the-art methods and developments in area of specialisation.

About you
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.

  • A professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE or IStruct

  • Experience of working with key clients such as Transport Scotland and National Highways, Network Rail, local authorities as well as major Contractors and Developers.

  • Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail standards).
