Are you an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer ready to take a leading role in technically challenging projects? Tetra Tech is seeking a Senior / Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our established Manchester team. This position offers the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary projects across sectors including life sciences, defence, education, commercial, healthcare and renewable energy, delivering high-quality engineering solutions that make a meaningful impact.
Purpose & Scope of the Role In this role, you will provide technical leadership and deliver mechanical building services design across a diverse portfolio of projects. You will manage project work from concept through to completion, ensuring designs meet client requirements, programme expectations and regulatory standards. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will contribute to the successful delivery of projects by producing high-quality calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
You will also play an important role in supporting project planning, coordinating with clients and design teams, and ensuring engineering excellence throughout the design and construction process.
Your Impact in this Position As a senior member of the team, you will influence the technical direction and quality of projects while supporting the development of junior engineers. Your expertise will help deliver efficient, sustainable building services solutions across multiple sectors. You will build trusted client relationships, contribute to new business opportunities, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with best practice.
Through technical guidance and collaboration, you will help strengthen the capability and reputation of the wider building services team.
Core Capabilities Technical Mechanical Engineering Expertise
- Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services systems across multiple sectors;
Produce and review calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports;
Apply strong knowledge of industry standards, legislation and best practice
Project Delivery & Coordination
- Manage multiple projects or work packages from concept to completion;
Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary design teams and stakeholders;
Monitor programme, workload and technical quality across deliverables
Digital Engineering & Modelling
- Use industry tools such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit MEP, IES and NBS to develop engineering designs;
Support the production and review of design drawings and digital models;
Contribute to efficient design processes through modern engineering tools
Client Engagement & Commercial Awareness
- Maintain strong client relationships and provide trusted technical advice;
Contribute to bid preparation and fee proposals;
Support project planning and resource coordination
Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers;
Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing within project teams;
Encourage technical excellence and professional growth
Qualifications, Experience & Skills You will hold a degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering and ideally be Chartered or working towards professional accreditation. You will bring proven experience delivering mechanical design across complex building services projects and be comfortable leading technical packages of work within multidisciplinary teams.
Experience with digital engineering tools and an understanding of sustainable design principles are important, along with strong communication and technical reporting skills.
Working Environment This role is based in Leeds with a hybrid working arrangement that combines office collaboration with remote working. Flexible working arrangements are supported to promote work-life balance while maintaining close collaboration across project teams. Travel to client sites may be required depending on project needs.
