Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their innovative team in Pietermaritzburg . This role is crucial for driving the design and development of new mechanical systems and improving existing ones. You will be an integral part of a dynamic engineering department, contributing to projects that span various industries, from automotive to manufacturing.

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of complex mechanical components and systems using CAD software.
• Conduct thorough stress analysis , thermal analysis, and other simulations to validate designs.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
• Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOMs).
• Oversee prototyping and testing phases, analyzing results, and iterating on designs as needed.
• Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical design and development, with a focus on complex systems.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, CATIA, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
• Strong understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes, and thermodynamics .
• Proven ability to manage projects from concept to completion, demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
