Senior Aviation Safety Officer; Remote

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior Aviation Safety Officer to join their globally distributed team. This is a remote-based position, allowing you to contribute your expertise in aviation safety from anywhere. You will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and overseeing the company's comprehensive safety management system (SMS), ensuring compliance with all relevant aviation authorities and industry best practices.

Your focus will be on fostering a strong safety culture, conducting thorough risk assessments, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to minimize aviation hazards and enhance operational safety across the organization.

• Develop, implement, and maintain the organization's Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Investigate safety incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing preventative measures.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to all levels of personnel, promoting a proactive safety culture.
• Monitor and analyze safety performance data, preparing reports and recommendations for senior management.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, such as the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA), on safety-related matters.

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in aviation safety management, with a significant portion in a senior role.
• Deep understanding of Safety Management Systems (SMS) , risk management principles, and aviation regulations (SACAA, ICAO, etc.).
• Proven ability to conduct effective safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
• Experience in developing and delivering comprehensive safety training programs.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Aviation Management, Safety Management, or a related field, with relevant certifications.
