The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Communications Engineer to join their specialist MOD engineering team, supporting the design, installation, commissioning and ongoing support of mission-critical communications systems across the UK defence estate.

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

Due to the amount of travel involved, our client is particularly looking for candidates based centrally within the UK, ideally with good access to the motorway network and transport hubs. This is not a position tied to one particular office; you will be supporting MOD and customer locations throughout the country.

The role could particularly suit a military veteran or service leaver from a communications, signals, electronics, telecommunications or CIS background who wants to take their technical experience into the commercial defence sector.

You may have gained your experience within the Royal Corps of Signals, RAF, Royal Navy, Royal Marines or another technically focused part of the Armed Forces. What matters is that you understand communications systems, can operate effectively within secure environments and are comfortable travelling throughout the UK to deliver technical projects.

You will be involved throughout the engineering lifecycle, from detailed design and site surveys through to installation, testing, commissioning, acceptance and in-service support.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

- Support the detailed design and engineering of MOD communications systems, including TETRA, DMR, LTE/MCX, RF infrastructure and associated IP networking.

- Translate approved system designs into installation plans, technical work packages and implementation procedures.

- Produce and maintain engineering documentation, including system designs, configuration records and test procedures.

- Undertake site surveys and engineering planning at locations throughout the UK.

- Identify installation constraints, integration risks and technical dependencies before deployment.

- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and system commissioning.

- Review test results and ensure systems meet agreed technical and operational requirements.

- Diagnose complex system faults and assist with technical remediation.

- Support upgrades, system modifications and configuration changes.

- Undertake periodic inspections, preventative maintenance and technical health checks.

- Work closely with MOD stakeholders and engineering teams to ensure systems are delivered safely, securely and to the required technical standard.

- Participate in an MOD on-call support rota once appropriately trained and assessed.

The original role involves the design, installation, commissioning and acceptance of communications systems within defence environments, including engineering delivery on customer sites.

What We Are Looking For

You should have recognised engineering training or relevant professional/military experience within areas such as:

- Communications engineering

- Telecommunications

- Electronic engineering

- RF engineering

- Military communications or CIS

- Mission-critical communications systems

Practical experience with Land Mobile Radio (LMR) or similar mission-critical communications systems would be particularly relevant.

You should also have experience in some or all of the following:

- Installation and commissioning of professional communications systems.

- RF systems, including
** repeaters, antennas, feeders and associated infrastructure**.

- Integration of communications equipment with IP networks.

- Fault diagnosis and technical problem-solving.

- Producing engineering and configuration documentation.

- Testing and acceptance of communications systems.

- Working in operational, field-based or secure environments.

- Dealing professionally with customers and technical stakeholders.

Location & Travel
