Im supporting a growing Southampton-based technology business looking for a Field Service Engineer. A practical technical foundation is important, but communication, teamwork, adaptability and the ability to learn matter more than experience with a particular product or industry. Training on the companys technology will be provided. Previous experience in water quality monitoring or sensor systems isnt required. The person were looking for What matters most is how you approach the work:

Willingness to learn: youre curious about how things work and keen to develop new technical skills. Reliability: you organise your work, take responsibility and follow through on commitments. A range of backgrounds could fit Were interested in transferable skills, so your experience could include:
Field service and installation: installing, maintaining or repairing equipment at customer sites. Electronics and electrical engineering: testing, fault-finding, repairs or deploying electronic systems. Mechanical and manufacturing maintenance: maintaining machinery, production equipment or automated systems. Scientific, laboratory and medical equipment: servicing instruments, diagnostic equipment or fluid-handling systems. Industrial instrumentation and controls: sensors, calibration, automation, telemetry or monitoring equipment. Marine and offshore engineering: vessel electronics, navigation systems or equipment maintenance.

Automotive, commercial vehicle or plant maintenance: diagnosing faults and repairing electrical and mechanical systems. Telecoms and building systems: communications equipment, security systems, fire alarms or building controls. Utilities and environmental services: water treatment, pumps, dosing systems, energy or monitoring equipment. Defence and Armed Forces: practical technical roles involving electronics, communications, electrical or mechanical maintenance. Your job title doesnt need to be Field Engineer.

Technicians, service engineers, maintenance engineers and technical service leavers are all encouraged to get in touch. The role The business develops specialist sensor systems for water quality and environmental monitoring. With training and support, youll install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair this equipment at customer sites. Youll work closely with customers and the internal technical team, combining hands-on engineering with relationship building and practical problem-solving.

Location and travel Youll split your time between the Southampton base, customer sites and some home working, depending on the work required. UK site visits: typically 13 days per week. International travel: typically no more than once per month, usually with around at least one weeks notice. Overnight stays: approximately twice per month. Travel expectations are discussed upfront and reviewed regularly, with individual needs considered where possible.
