HVAC Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative HVAC Design Engineer to join their growing team, remotely serving projects within the Richards Bay, Kwa Zulu-Natal region. This role is responsible for the design, specification, and integration of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for a variety of commercial and industrial applications. You will leverage your expertise in thermal dynamics and system design to create efficient, reliable, and cost-effective HVAC solutions.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with architects, structural engineers, and project managers to ensure that HVAC systems meet project requirements, building codes, and energy efficiency standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer to contribute to impactful projects from a remote setting.

• Design and engineer HVAC systems for new constructions and retrofits, including load calculations, equipment selection, and ductwork/piping layout.
• Prepare detailed design documents, including drawings, specifications, BOMs , and control strategies using industry-standard software.
• Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and energy efficiency regulations.
• Collaborate with clients, project managers, and construction teams to review designs, address queries, and provide technical support during the installation phase.
• Conduct site visits (as required and feasible) for inspections and problem-solving, particularly for projects in the Richards Bay area.
• Evaluate new HVAC technologies and materials to improve system performance and sustainability.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC design and engineering, with a strong understanding of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
• Proficiency with HVAC design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, HAP, Trace 700).
• Knowledge of various HVAC system types, components, and their applications in industrial and commercial settings.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Experience working remotely and effectively coordinating with geographically dispersed teams.
