Job Summary  Motion Controls International (MCi), a Flex company, is a pioneering product company specializing in compact actuators with embedded software designed for adaptive motion applications. We are looking for a Robotics System Architect to lead our efforts to apply our competence in the exciting and rapidly evolving sector of Robotics. In this role, you will be accountable for defining and governing the robotics technology architecture and related technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with MCi strategic objectives.
The Robot System Architect works closely with the Manager Business Development Robotics and the technical teams to identify the product/ market combination in low-torque robotic actuators and joint systems with the best fit to the MCi Robotics strategy. He/ she guides the development of the appropriate architecture and transfers the necessary know-how in the mechanical, hardware and software domains to the MCi technical organization.
What a typical day looks like
Assess MCi’s current capabilities and perform a gap analysis against target robotics applications
Acts as the technical authority for robotics system architecture within MCi.
Identify and recommend the robotics segments where MCi can compete and create value.
Translate payload, reach, accuracy, costand safetyobjectivesinto a complete system architecture.
Define interfaces between mechanics, reducer, motor, sensors, electronics, firmware, motioncontroland robot software.
Own system requirement allocation, architecturedecisionsand cross-domain trade-offs.
Position the MCi product in the robot kinematic model, coordinatesystemsand calibration concept.
Define the system integration,verification and validation strategy.
Lead architecture reviews, interfacereviewsand technical risk resolution.
Lead cross-functional trade-off decisions across mechanical, electronic, software and systems engineering disciplines.
Maintain the architecture baseline, interfacedocumentationand technical decision log.
Createand owns product technology platformroadmap including build, buy, and partner recommendation.
Develop robotics systems knowledge within the existing MCi engineering team
Advise MCi leadership on robotics strategy. Acts as the Technology representative of MCi towards the flex organization, customers and suppliers.
Establish relationships with robotics OEMs, suppliers, universities, research institutes, and industry experts
Report and communicate timely to the MCi Segment organization.
The experience we’re looking to add to our team
Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer science or Engineering
5 years of experience in industrial, service, mobile or humanoid robotics
Experience working directly with robot OEMs, integrators, or automation companies
Ability to translate customer needs into technical requirements and product specifications
Strong knowledge of motors, gearboxes/reducers, sensors, motion control, and embedded systems
Knowledge of the applicable standards (e.g. ISO 10218)
Strong understanding of robot kinematics and dynamics
Strong understanding of control systems (model-based control, VLA, MPC,..)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
Ability to travel on a global scale
Strong understanding of embedded software architecture and real time operating systems.
