Process Design Engineer - Petrochemicals

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the petrochemical industry located near Klerksdorp, is seeking a talented Process Design Engineer to join their expanding engineering department. You will be responsible for developing innovative process designs for new plant facilities and modifications to existing ones. This role requires a strong technical foundation in chemical engineering principles and experience with process simulation and design software.

You will work on challenging projects, contributing to the company's growth and technological advancement in the North West region.

• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
• Perform process simulations and calculations for mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and hydraulics.
• Specify process equipment, including reactors, columns, heat exchangers, and pumps.
• Conduct feasibility studies and prepare technical reports for new projects.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) to ensure integrated design.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, codes, and company safety policies.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in process design, preferably in the petrochemical or oil and gas sector.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., HYSYS, PRO/II, Aspen Plus).
• Strong understanding of unit operations, thermodynamics, and reaction engineering.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API).
• Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
