About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Controls Engineer for a fully remote position, ideally based near Stellenbosch . This role is central to designing, developing, and implementing sophisticated control systems for complex industrial applications. You will lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and drive innovation in automation solutions. The successful candidate will possess deep technical expertise in PLC programming, HMI development, robotics, and industrial networking, along with a proven ability to manage challenging projects from inception to successful deployment.

- Lead the design and development of complex electrical control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and robotics.
- Develop and implement advanced PLC programs (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000) and HMI/SCADA applications.
- Specify and select control system hardware, instrumentation, and power distribution components.
- Oversee the integration of control systems with plant-wide networks and enterprise systems.
- Provide expert technical support, troubleshooting, and optimization for existing automation solutions.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508) and industry best practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field;
Master's preferred. - 8+ years of progressive experience in industrial automation and control systems engineering.
- Expert proficiency in multiple PLC platforms, HMI/SCADA software, and industrial networking protocols.
- In-depth knowledge of robotics programming (e.g., KUKA, FANUC) and motion control systems.
- Experience with functional safety standards and implementation.
- Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated success in remote collaboration environments.
