We are currently seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Solid Rocket Motor Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will have experience as Mechanical Design Engineer for solid rocket motors. That would include Mechanical Design Integration of Solid Propulsion Systems, mechanical system design, mass properties and integrating all sub-assemblies. They will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of mechanical components used in solid rocket motor systems.
This role focuses on creating CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for critical hardware such as motor cases, nozzles, insulation systems, joints, and structural interfaces. This position can be remote or at our Huntsville, AL, Niceville FL, or Hampton, AR facility.

- Applies advanced engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
- Guides the interpretation of blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
- Collaborates with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
- Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and makes recommendations to maintenance crew.
- Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience
- Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
- Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Preferred education and experience: Bachelor's Degree

Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed thermal analysis of solid rocket motor components.
- Size internal insulation, external thermal protection systems, and structural insulators.
- Validate models with test data; develop predictive ablation and erosion models.
- Define sub-scale tests for characterizing material properties of insulators and ablators.
- Evaluate and recommend ablative materials and thermal protection system solutions for applications in solid rocket motors
