Electrical Engineering
During your 10-weeks on our Engineering and Technology Internship programme, you’ll gain invaluable insight into the breadth of our work and discover where you’d like to take your career with us. You’ll join our Engineering, Technology and Safety organisation, which supports all our different divisions. You’ll gather experience across the engineering lifecycle and building capabilities such as mechanical systems, manufacturing, software and digital, electrical, materials and development.
This could be within our central Engineering, Technology and Safety teams or within our Civil Aerospace, Defence, Defence Nuclear Submarines or Power Systems divisions. We want to give you a breadth of experience across Rolls‑Royce to build your network. You could be asked to support in our Civil, Power or Defence functions, depending on business needs.
- Working on exciting and varied projects – from exploring Nuclear options for powering the UK’s fleet of Naval Submarines, to helping develop next-generation demonstrator engines such as the Ultra Fan or for the Global Combat Air Programme
- Using data, technology and AI to improve environmental performance at power stations, test marine automation software or strengthen cyber-security
- You’ll develop through a mix of digital learning, on-the-job training and opportunities that bring your ideas to life in meaningful ways
- Accessing opportunities for continuous learning
Our behaviours drive us – we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. We’ll expect that of you, too. We see hybrid working as a way to balance and flex our time between the office, home, or another remote working place. Everyone is expected on site, on average, a minimum three days per week.
But specific arrangements will vary from role to role and gig to gig. We encourage and support flexible working arrangements where we can.
- Meaningful work from day one, with the support to help you succeed
- A culture that invests in your personal and professional development
- The chance to grow your skills while working on real projects in a global company
You’ll be working on real projects and making a real difference from day one. That’s why we make sure you’re properly rewarded for the work you do.
Along with your salary, you’ll get:
- 33 days’ annual leave, including bank holidays
- Access to an independent, 24-hour, confidential counselling service
Join us and help create the technologies that will shape tomorrow. If you're ready to learn, grow and make a lasting difference from day one, we'd love to hear from you.
- A degree in any STEM subject, or joint honours degrees that combine STEM with subjects like business or economics
- A strong passion for the future of technology
- Being open-minded, curious and agile in your approach to work and career development
When you’re building, manufacturing, inspecting, or repairing some of the most advanced engines in the world, the margin for error is, quite literally, microscopic. That’s why we invest so much in training our Practical Apprentices. We provide a salaried job and the support to gain nationally-recognised qualifications. More than that, with the chance to get hands‑on experience with Rolls‑Royce engines or products, we offer the sort of exciting, real‑world exposure that you can’t get anywhere else.
Our high‑performance, integrated power solutions are at the cutting edge of technology. From powering huge commercial vessels to nuclear submarines, supersonic fighter jets to highly efficient passenger planes, or rail locomotives to luxury yachts, we go above and beyond to create better. And it’s all thanks to our people. Whether they work in engineering or finance, manufacturing or project management, our 50,000‑strong team work together to deliver excellence in the air, on land and at sea – to customers in 150 nations around the world.
Trusted to deliver excellence. We recruit, select and develop our people on merit, irrespective of their race, colour, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, disability or any other characteristic.
