Environmental Compliance Officer - Energy Projects

Our client, a leader in developing sustainable energy solutions , is seeking a meticulous and knowledgeable Environmental Compliance Officer for a fully remote position, supporting projects across South Africa . This role is crucial for ensuring that all our energy generation and infrastructure projects adhere to stringent environmental regulations and sustainability standards. You will be instrumental in conducting assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

• Develop, implement, and manage environmental management plans for energy projects , ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and permits.
• Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and compile associated reports for new project developments.
• Monitor project sites to ensure adherence to environmental protection measures and identify potential risks or non-compliance issues.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, environmental agencies, and project stakeholders to facilitate permit applications and ensure ongoing compliance.
• Investigate environmental incidents, develop corrective actions, and implement preventative measures to avoid recurrence.
• Provide environmental awareness training and guidance to project teams and contractors working on various renewable energy sites.

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental compliance , particularly within the energy sector or large infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in conducting EIAs, developing EMPs, and managing environmental aspects of projects.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation, policies, and permitting processes.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, suitable for remote collaboration .
• Ability to interpret technical data and translate it into actionable compliance strategies.
