Would you like to work across the Wessex Water region surveying, installing and maintaining riverside water quality monitoring sites?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Smart Rivers team as an Environmental Technician.

  • help to source and deploy CWQM equipment
  • maintain the equipment in the field, including calibrating scientific equipment in a lab environment
  • produce drawings and technical reports to support the planning and permits required for the CWQM installations
  • use your knowledge and collected data to develop GIS data sets and build a picture of catchment water quality
  • assist with water quality surveys using our remote-controlled “surfboard” and interpreting the data to understand optimal monitor placement
  • use your investigation skills to help answer questions about the data being received by the CWQM sites
  • assist our operational and catchment teams in investigating potential pollutions, collecting and reporting data that will assist in making effective decisions that lead to positive environmental and stakeholder outcomes
  • help identify and develop creative ways to automate or improve efficiency
  • engage with other departments to ensure we identify and maximise potential synergies with existing projects and the available data sources.

This will mostly be a field-based role with 1-2 days of office/home-based work each week.

  • Good data management, listening and interpretation skills with an appreciation of technical objectives.

  • An understanding of environmental issues relating to the abstraction and discharge of water and water pollution, but this is not essential.
