What Your Day Will Look Like:

As a Traffic Engineering Designer (EIT), you will contribute to the planning, analysis, and design of complex transportation infrastructure projects, supporting the development of safe, efficient, and multimodal transportation systems. Working under the guidance of licensed engineers and project managers, you will perform traffic engineering analyses, develop traffic control and signing/pavement marking plans, assist with signal design and timing studies, and support roadway safety evaluations.

You will apply sound engineering judgment, industry standards, and innovative problem‑solving skills to deliver high‑quality, constructible solutions that enhance mobility and improve the traveling public’s experience. This role offers opportunities to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, engage with clients and stakeholders, and gain hands‑on experience throughout project development, from concept and analysis through final design and implementation.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead the preparation and delivery of traffic engineering design plans, specifications, engineer’s estimates, and supporting documentation for transportation projects, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, agency requirements, and project objectives.
  • Develop and design traffic engineering systems and infrastructure, including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, roadway lighting, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and maintenance of traffic/work zone traffic control plans to support safe and efficient roadway operations.
  • Perform advanced traffic engineering analyses and design calculations related to traffic operations, capacity, signal warrants, queueing, safety, and traffic control devices, applying sound engineering judgment and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate traffic engineering efforts with roadway, drainage, structural, utility, and environmental disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions, resolve conflicts, and maintain project schedules and deliverable quality.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and quality oversight for junior engineers and designers, including reviewing calculations, plans, and reports to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to project and agency standards.
  • Support intersection, corridor, and multimodal transportation studies by evaluating operational and safety performance, developing recommendations, and translating study findings into practical, implementable transportation design solutions.
What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in transportation design.
  • 2+ years of directly related experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Micro Station &/or Civil 3D.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
