Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Scale Developments

Our client, a leading geotechnical and foundation engineering consultancy, is actively seeking a highly experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their fully remote team. This position is integral to delivering expert geotechnical solutions for a range of large-scale developments, including commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and infrastructure projects across various challenging terrains. As a remote-first role, you will leverage advanced communication tools and collaborate with project teams and clients globally, all from your chosen location.

We are looking for a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of soil mechanics, foundation design, and risk assessment, who can independently manage complex projects and provide strategic technical leadership. • Lead the geotechnical investigation, analysis, and design for complex and large-scale development projects.
• Develop detailed geotechnical reports, foundation designs (including deep and shallow foundations), and ground improvement strategies.
• Perform advanced numerical modeling and analysis of soil-structure interaction using specialized software.
• Oversee and interpret data from various site investigation techniques (e.g., boreholes, CPTs, in-situ testing).
• Provide expert technical guidance and peer review for geotechnical aspects of projects managed by other engineers.
• Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of geotechnical services.
• Communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and other disciplines to convey complex geotechnical information and recommendations.
• Ensure compliance with relevant national and international geotechnical design codes and standards.
• Mentor and guide junior geotechnical engineers, fostering technical growth within the remote team structure.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering technology and methodologies.

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.
• A minimum of 9 years of extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant focus on large-scale developments and complex foundation challenges.
• Demonstrated expertise in numerical modeling software (e.g., PLAXIS 2D/3D, Geo Studio Suite, FLAC).
• In-depth knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, seismic analysis, and foundation engineering principles.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and lead technical teams remotely.
• Exceptional report writing and verbal communication skills, crucial for remote client interaction.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Experience with South African geotechnical conditions and relevant standards is a plus.
• Self-motivated and capable of working autonomously in a remote setting, maintaining high productivity and quality.
