Senior Rock Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Rock Engineer to join their geotechnical team in Centurion. This role is pivotal in ensuring the stability and safety of underground excavations and surface structures related to mining operations. You will apply advanced principles of rock mechanics and geomechanics to analyze complex geotechnical challenges and develop effective support strategies. The position involves a blend of office-based analysis and occasional site visits, requiring close collaboration with mine planning, operations, and safety departments.

• Conduct detailed numerical modeling and analysis of rock mass behavior and mine stability.
• Develop and implement optimized ground support designs and systems for various mining conditions.
• Perform site investigations, rock mass characterization, and stability assessments.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice and recommendations to mine planning and operations teams.
• Investigate and report on geotechnical incidents, recommending corrective actions.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of geotechnical best practices.

• Master's degree or PhD in Rock Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in rock engineering within the mining industry.
• Proficiency in numerical modeling software such as FLAC3D, UDEC, or similar.
• Strong understanding of geomechanics principles, seismic monitoring, and ground support systems.
• Experience with site investigations and data interpretation.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
