What to Expect
Your role is the electromagnetic, thermal and structural design of three-dimensional structures made from our conductors and dielectrics, and the measurements that prove them.
That is metamaterial and metasurface design on an effective-medium description of the stack, antennas, filters and via structures, thermal paths and expansion, and the elastic behavior of a layered composite, each closed on an instrument.
You will own the design rules for what can be built from these materials and the property data the solvers run on, each value carrying its instrument and uncertainty. You say what a formulation has to do because a structure has to.
We are looking for physicists and electrical engineers with experience and interest in computational electromagnetics and the measurement that checks it, metamaterial and effective-medium design, and thermal and structural analysis of layered materials.
Every role works with our AI systems daily. What can be deterministic, must be. You need no AI background; we prefer people without one. We hire for your knowledge and experience in the field first, so you can steer the ship; the tooling is a learning curve we expect you to take on.
We work on-site in El Segundo. This is hard work, but you will be rewarded with equity in a company we believe will become one of the world's most valuable.
What You'll Do- Electromagnetic design: metasurface unit cells under periodic boundaries, full apertures, antennas and feed networks
- Transmission and interconnect: characteristic impedance, coplanar and stripline forms, conductor loss, shielded via geometry
- The effective-medium description of the stack: anisotropic permittivity, conductivity and loss with uncertainty bands
- Thermal design: conduction paths, heat spreading in the stack, expansion mismatch, and repeated cycling
- Structural design of a layered composite: directional stiffness, interlayer adhesion, residual stress and warp
- Simulation: full-wave and quasistatic solves, thermal conduction, linear elasticity, parametric sweeps and optimization
- Measurement: coupon design, vector network analyzer and TRL calibration, resonator, thermal and mechanical testing
- Design rules and property records carrying instrument and uncertainty, and requirements back to materials
- A degree in physics, applied physics, electrical, RF or microwave engineering, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on electromagnetic design backed by a full-wave solver: periodic unit cells, S-parameters, far-field transforms
- Fluent with vector network analyzer work, TRL calibration and de-embedding, and resonator methods for dielectrics
- Working knowledge of thermal and structural analysis: conduction, thermal stress, and layered elastic behavior
- The judgment to take a structure that measures differently than it simulated back to its cause
- Ready to specify the instruments and coupons this work needs, and to set solves beside readings
- Bonus: metamaterial or frequency-selective surface design, effective-medium homogenization, or passive elements built into a board
