Building Envelope Specialist Architect

Our client, an esteemed architectural and engineering consultancy located in Mossel Bay, Western Cape
, is seeking a highly skilled Building Envelope Specialist Architect. This specialized role focuses on the design, performance, and integrity of the building envelope - the crucial interface between the interior environment and the exterior. You will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance in terms of thermal resistance, moisture control, air sealing, and structural integrity for a range of building typologies.

This is a hybrid position, requiring collaboration at our Mossel Bay office and offering remote work flexibility.

• Design and specify building envelope systems, including roofing, cladding, windows, and curtain wall systems.
• Analyze and resolve complex issues related to moisture intrusion, air leakage, thermal bridging, and condensation.
• Conduct building envelope performance reviews and diagnostics.
• Develop detailed specifications and drawings for building envelope components.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure proper integration and installation of envelope systems.
• Perform site observations and quality control inspections related to envelope construction.
• Stay abreast of advancements in building envelope technologies, materials, and testing methods.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations for clients regarding building envelope performance and remediation.

• Professional Architect qualification, registered with SACAP.
• Minimum of 7 years of architectural experience with a demonstrable specialization in building envelope design and performance.
• Extensive knowledge of materials science, hygrothermal principles, and building physics as they apply to the envelope.
• Proficiency in relevant design and analysis software.
• Experience with building envelope diagnostics and testing protocols.
• Strong understanding of construction methods and detailing for various building types.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model, coordinating from our Mossel Bay office.
