Remote Civil Design Engineer - Stormwater Management

Our client, an innovative environmental engineering firm, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Remote Civil Design Engineer specializing in stormwater management to join their dynamic, fully remote team. This position offers the flexibility to work from anywhere while contributing to critical infrastructure projects focused on sustainable urban drainage and flood mitigation. You will be responsible for the analysis, design, and implementation of advanced stormwater systems, including SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems), detention/retention facilities, and conveyance networks.

The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and environmental best practices in stormwater management. • Design and analyze stormwater management systems, including natural and engineered solutions.
• Conduct hydrological and hydraulic modeling to assess runoff, flood risks, and system performance.
• Develop detailed design reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications using industry-standard software.
• Collaborate effectively with remote project managers, clients, and other engineering disciplines via virtual platforms.
• Ensure designs comply with South African national standards, municipal bylaws, and environmental regulations.
• Perform quality control checks on designs and provide remote technical support.
• Research and propose innovative and sustainable approaches to stormwater management.
• Manage project documentation and contribute to the preparation of proposals.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in civil engineering design, with a strong focus on stormwater management.
• Proven expertise in hydrological and hydraulic modeling software ( e.g., HEC-RAS, EPANET, SWMM ).
• Solid understanding of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) principles and design.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and other relevant design software.
• Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment is highly desirable.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
• Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
• Professional registration with ECSA is a significant advantage.
