Specialist Process Safety Engineer

Our client, What Jobs Direct, is seeking a dedicated Specialist Process Safety Engineer to join their operations near Rustenburg, North West, ZA . This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, blending on-site collaboration with remote flexibility. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of our chemical processes and facilities. This position requires a deep understanding of process safety management principles, hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Develop and review safety-critical procedures, operating manuals, and emergency response plans.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance on process safety matters to engineering and operations teams.
• Perform safety audits and assessments of plant equipment and processes.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
• Train personnel on process safety principles and procedures.
• Stay updated on best practices and advancements in process safety engineering.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience specifically in process safety engineering within a chemical or petrochemical environment.
• Proven experience conducting various PHA methodologies.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP).
• Strong understanding of mechanical integrity, management of change, and emergency planning.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
• Experience with safety management software and tools.
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CSP) are advantageous.
• Must be eligible to work in South Africa.
