Senior Environmental Engineer

Our client, a highly respected environmental consultancy, is seeking a dedicated Senior Environmental Engineer to join their team, offering a hybrid working model with a base in Midrand, Gauteng . This role is crucial for developing and implementing environmental management strategies, conducting impact assessments, and ensuring regulatory compliance for a variety of industrial and development projects. You will lead environmental projects, manage junior staff, and engage with clients and regulatory authorities.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of environmental legislation, impact assessment processes, and sustainable development principles, with a passion for protecting and enhancing the environment. This position offers a significant opportunity to influence environmental outcomes on major projects within Midrand and the broader Gauteng region.

• Lead the preparation and review of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
• Conduct site investigations and baseline studies to assess environmental conditions.
• Develop and implement environmental monitoring programs.
• Provide expert advice on environmental compliance, legislation, and permitting requirements.
• Manage environmental aspects of development projects, including waste management, pollution control, and rehabilitation.
• Liaise with clients, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
• Manage project teams, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality environmental reports and deliverables.
• Mentor and guide junior environmental scientists and engineers.
• Stay abreast of evolving environmental legislation, policies, and best practices.
• Contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation and client engagement.

• Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Professional registration with ECSA or SAIAT is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in environmental consulting or management.
• Proven expertise in conducting EIAs, EMPs, and environmental auditing.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation (e.g., NEMA) and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience with environmental modeling and GIS is an advantage.
• Strong project management, analytical, and report writing skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
• Experience working on projects within the Gauteng province, especially in industrial or infrastructure sectors, is preferred.
