Road Design Engineer

Our client, a forward-thinking civil engineering firm dedicated to advancing transportation infrastructure, is seeking a talented Road Design Engineer to join their fully remote team. While based remotely, you will be contributing to critical road and highway projects in and around the Paarl, Western Cape region. This role is perfect for an experienced engineer who excels in designing safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation networks using state-of-the-art technology.

You will collaborate closely with a distributed team of professionals, playing a key role in the conceptualization and detailed design phases. • Lead the geometric design of highways, rural roads, and urban streets, ensuring compliance with design standards.
• Develop detailed design plans, including horizontal and vertical alignment, cross-sections, and intersection design.
• Prepare specifications, Bills of Quantities (BoQ), and contract documents for road construction projects.
• Conduct traffic analysis, capacity studies, and safety assessments to inform design decisions.
• Design road drainage systems, including culverts, storm drains, and channels.
• Utilize advanced CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley inroads) for design and modeling.
• Coordinate with geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental specialists in a virtual environment.
• Review designs prepared by junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Assist in preparing proposals and responding to tenders for new road projects.
• Ensure designs meet all relevant South African road design standards and regulations.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience specifically in road and highway design.
• Proficiency in road design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley inroads/Open Roads, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of geometric design principles, traffic engineering, and drainage design.
• Familiarity with South African road design standards and specifications.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for effective remote collaboration.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
• Experience with traffic modeling software is an advantage.
