Senior Power Systems Engineer

Our client, a leading consultancy in the energy sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Power Systems Engineer to join their esteemed team based in Benoni, Gauteng . This role involves complex analysis, design, and project management related to power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. You will be instrumental in developing solutions for grid stability, renewable energy integration, and infrastructure upgrades.

The position offers a hybrid work model, combining essential on-site collaboration and client meetings with the flexibility of remote work for detailed analysis and design. This is a pivotal role for an expert in power systems engineering within the dynamic Gauteng energy landscape.

• Conduct detailed power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and protection coordination analysis.
• Design and specify power system components such as transformers, switch gear, protection relays, and generation interconnection systems.
• Develop grid interconnection studies and impact assessments for new generation facilities.
• Oversee the technical aspects of power system projects from conceptualization through to commissioning.
• Ensure all designs and studies comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., NERSA, IEC, IEEE) and best practices.
• Collaborate with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal engineering teams to achieve project objectives.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership on complex power system challenges.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in the power systems field, particularly in renewable energy and grid modernization.
• Manage project timelines and resources effectively to ensure timely delivery of high-quality engineering services.

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in power system analysis and design.
• Expertise in using power system simulation software such as PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, or equivalent.
• In-depth knowledge of power system protection principles, relay settings, and fault analysis.
• Experience with grid codes, regulatory requirements, and utility interconnection processes.
• Proven track record of managing complex power system projects.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Experience with renewable energy integration studies is a significant advantage.
